Arabic pronunciation and diacritics checklist for TTS

Prepare names, numbers, punctuation, diacritics, and mixed-language text before generating Arabic speech.

Normalize the script

  • Remove accidental repeated spaces and invisible copied formatting.
  • Choose one representation for dates, currencies, and measurements.
  • Write abbreviations the way they should be spoken when their reading is not obvious.

Use diacritics where meaning changes

Full vocalization is not always necessary. Add diacritics to ambiguous names, uncommon terms, verb forms, and words whose case or vowel changes the intended meaning. Over-diacritizing ordinary text can make maintenance harder, so keep the correction close to the risky word.

Punctuation controls pacing

  • Use commas for short pauses and full stops for clear sentence boundaries.
  • Break long lists into sentences instead of relying on many commas.
  • Keep question marks and exclamation marks intentional; they influence delivery.

Run a final listening pass

Generate a short sample containing the names, numbers, and transitions most likely to fail. Listen once for words and once for rhythm. Correct the source text—not the audio file—so the fix remains reproducible when the script changes.
